Scottish Hills & Glens 4x4 Reliability Tour
Friday 23, Saturday 24
This new event is based on the famous Classic Malts Rally, which appealed to owners of classic cars and classic rally cars who wanted a well organised tour and outing for their vehicles to compete in (not speed) and to enjoy the friendship of like minded people.
The event will help raise funds for Royal Scottish Agricultural Benevolent Institute, a charity helping retired estate, farm and forestry workers. We will also like to think that some funds can be added to the club but we will set a target with RSABI for their fundraising goals.
The dates are now fixed as Friday 23rd, saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June 2006.
The Scottish Hills & Glens 4x4 Reliability Tour is for any standard 4x4 vehicle designed and sold as such. Protypes and specials are not allowed (but please ask for clarification).
Anyone may enter, you do not need a competition licence, however you will need to be road legal, both car and driver. You will need to join our club but the fee is included in the entry fee. You have full member status.
The rally or tour will cover less used public highways, forestry commission land and some privately owned forests and estates. The event is run under the rules and insurance of the governing body, the Motor Sport Association and will carry a permit from them, the Scottish Executive and other agencies.
There will be challenges on route to test navigation, driving skill, old fashioned road chivalry and observation. Prizes will be awarded for different classes based on scores. Speeding will not be encouraged. A prize also to the crew who raise the most amount of sponsorship for RSABI. Either a free entry to the 2007 event or the 2007 Hillrally plus a special prize each.
After another overnight stop we head North then west down by a loch and over the moor to Rannoch for lunch and then on to Killin via two more high mountain passes then return to Crieff for prize giving dinner.
All the estate lands are now agreed and the road book will be finalised in April. The draft route rendered on Fugawi has produced, over 420 miles in total of which 120 are off road. Only 20 odd are main roads.
